“O God, you are my God, earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you, my body longs for you …because your love is better than life†Psalm 63:1-2
“Whom have I in heaven but you? And earth has nothing I desire besides you.†Psalm 73:25
You rarely hear about it in sermons, except perhaps in context with the famous “Your maker is your husband†verse from Isaiah. It’s the one often thrown out as a consolation prize for the poor lonely widow or widower. Sure, it applies to them, but how do you think that makes God feel? Is his incredible and intimate love to be reduced to a relational ‘Band-aid' for singles? What about married folks; is he not also to be their on true Love—or is the whole thing just an idealistic metaphor? What creature on earth is capable of the passion and emotion of a human be-ing—and what other creature did God create in his own image?
