Why I Value Physical Therapists

In April of 2007, I decided to attempt to come back from retirement of fighting. I called my old Olympic taekwondo team and began training. To my surprise, I still had a lot of my ability, speed and power that I had back in my twenties. I trained every day, losing about 30 lbs. in the process. I would not ever pass up an opportunity to fight. But on that dreaded Easter weekend, it all came crashing down. When I should have been with my family participating in the neighborhood Easter egg hunt, I was in the ring fighting a few of my buddies.

During one of the fights, I felt a force of impact, like a baseball bat to my leg, which I had NEVER experienced before. It sounded like a gun went off. I ruptured my Achilles heel. No use of my right foot, could not walk.

Long story short, I ended up on my couch for about one week before my surgery. I had the thing re-attached and then for 6 months had to learn how to walk again. Physical Therapy was a God send. If it wasn't for this discipline, I would have more than likely re-injured myself due to a messed up gate. Thank you to all of you that are Physical and Occupational therapists. I am forever in your debt.
